How to use CSV to JSON

Paste CSV text or drop a .csv file to get a JSON array of objects. Each row becomes one object, and the first row supplies the keys.

  1. Paste CSV into the input box, or drag and drop a .csv file.
  2. Select Convert. The first row is read as the header row.
  3. Copy the JSON or download it as a .json file.

Questions

Which delimiters are supported?
The delimiter is detected automatically, so comma, semicolon, tab and pipe separated files all work without changing a setting.
How are numbers and true/false values handled?
By default, values that look like numbers become JSON numbers and true or false become booleans. Tick Keep all values as text to keep every value as a string, which preserves leading zeros such as 00501 and long IDs. Surrounding spaces are always trimmed.
What happens if a row has too few or too many fields?
Short rows are padded with empty strings and extra fields beyond the header count are dropped, so one ragged row does not stop the conversion. Blank lines are skipped.
Can fields contain commas or line breaks?
Yes, if the field is wrapped in double quotes, which is how spreadsheet exports write them.
How large a file can I convert?
There is no upload limit because nothing is uploaded. Files of a few megabytes convert quickly; very large files are limited by your browser memory.
Is my data uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs in your browser with JavaScript, so your files and text stay on your device.
